Easy Homemade Hummus

Who doesn't love hummus?! Such a great snack to pair with veggies or crackers, and a great way to get in some extra protein. I used to always buy hummus at the store but it got to be pretty pricey, especially with the amount I would eat in one sitting (It's addicting). I also was looking at the ingredients list, and wasn't too thrilled about it. I realized that most pre-made hummus was made with some sort of vegetable oil blend, "natural" flavors, and preservatives. Here's a picture for reference:

Of course you do the best you can and you can't always buy groceries with perfect ingredients, but its good to be aware. There are many companies that make their hummus with olive oil, which is best. However, the better quality oil will make it more expensive and there's still always a chance of some natural flavors and preservatives in there that we should try to avoid. So making your own hummus is always best in my opinion!

I know you may be thinking that homemade hummus sounds difficult BUT its actually super simple, less expensive, and the healthiest option for you! I even have a sped-up video of how I make mine in a blender at the end of this blog.

Ingredients:

1 can chickpeas, drained

1/4 cup tahini

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp water

juice of 2 small lemons

1 tbsp garlic, minced

dash of salt, pepper, turmeric, and paprika (or any spices of choice)

Directions:

Add all ingredients into a high speed blender or food processor and blend until its a nice smooth consistency. You may need to add a tbsp more of water as you go. Feel free to add any spices or seasonings that you may like! Store in fridge in an air tight container.

I highly recommend trying this recipe out if you are a hummus lover like me! Nothing beats a fresh batch of homemade hummus and a plate of veggies perfect for dipping. :)

This recipe is great by itself, or as a base recipe for any other flavors you want to try! There are SO many ways and flavors to make hummus, so get creative!
